         Days Of Yesteryear

                                      About the song:
I grew up living near the mouth of the Susquehanna River in Maryland.
At the north part of the Chesapeake Bay on that river was a small town
we called "Perry" (for Perryville).  This is the place that I sing about in
this song.  One morning before I got up out of bed, there was a mocking
bird just singing his heart out, right outside my bedroom window.  As the
bird just kept on singing I slipped into a state of half awake and half asleep.
My mind went back to those days living on that river.  They are some of my
fondest memories.  That little bird inspired me to write this song.

Back when I was a boy growing up in the country.
Well I remember a time and a place of long ago.
Back on the banks of the Susquehanna, lived a girl by the name of Shanna
She and I made a team who where raring to go.

Chorus:
Bm                          F#m                         Em            Asus4 A7
Going back to yesteryear, back when I was just a lad.
Bm                                 F#m                         Em            Asus4 A7
It all comes back so crystal clear in these memories I have.
G                       A                  D          c#         G     D
By and by Iíll sigh, with that burning question why.
                      G                  A                       D    G   D   G   D   G   D
Then Iíll smile a gentle smile and start a new.

Well, Shanna and I were the best of friends and then some.
She used to sit and sing her loving heart out just for me.
We were young and without a care, and our dreams we would love to share.
And we would talk of things and of places we longed to see.

Well, I remember the time with her had in mine, back in Perry
We were running just as hard and fast as we could go.
But when running on down a hill, she lost her footing and took a spill.
That tore my heart in a way she could never know.

Chorus:

Back in days of yesteryear, some memories are sad.
But all in all, it is crystal clear, some are the best that I ever had.
By and by Iíll sigh, in that burning question why.
Then Iíll smile a gentle smile and start a new.

Well, many a years gone by, how the time does fly, but now I know,
Why those years never took those memories away from me.
But now, all that I can say, I wish we never had parted ways,
and itís taken me all this time for me to clearly see.

For thereís a little bird, sheís bin sitting outside my window.
She been singing her little heart out just for me.
And the melody she brings, from the branch where upon she sings,
carries me away to a place that I long to be.

Yah the melody that she brings, from the branch where upon she sings,
carries me away to a place that I long to be.

Chorus:

Back to days of yesteryear, back when I was just a lad.
It all comes back so crystal clear in these melodies I have.
By and by Iíll sigh, with that burning question why.
Then Iíll smile a gentle smile and start a new.

Em                            Asus4    A7            D       G
Then Iíll smile a gentle smile.... ........ and start a new.

          D       G     D   G    D
